400×400 Challenge

News

9th April 2020

The Plymouth Design Forum 400×400 challenge is a great community art project, an unofficial part of the Mayflower 400 commemorations of this year (marking 400 years since the sailing of the Mayflower from Plymouth).

Each month a single-word theme is released and anyone (professional, student or non designers) is invited to create and submit a visual response at 400mm x 400mm.

It’s in its 12th month already, and has received hundreds of amazing interpretations of the monthly themes such as Freedom, Equality, Fear and Territory. This month (April) the theme is Isolation and we’d love to see as many entries as possible from around the world. With the country in lockdown, it’s a great opportunity to flex your creative muscles and keep your mind active.

A selection of entries will be displayed in an exhibition and a printed book later in the year, but it’s also just for fun – don’t feel intimidated or nervous about putting something out there!

Check out the @plymouthdesignforum Instagram account to see how other designers have been interpreting the brief, and the PDF website for details on how to enter.
